DIY Upcycled T-Shirt Art: Frame Fabric with a Recycled Metal Frame

Riders on the Storm Fabric Print in Recycled Picture Frame

Are you looking for a creative, budget-friendly way to repurpose old T-shirts into stunning home décor? This DIY project transforms T-shirt fabric into framed artwork using a thrifted metal frame, making it an eco-conscious and stylish addition to your space.

Materials Needed:

  • An old T-shirt with a design or pattern you love
  • A recycled metal frame (thrift store find)
  • A matte board (optional, for added contrast)
  • Scissors
  • Spray adhesive or fabric glue
  • Tape or staples
  • A ruler and pencil

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Choose Your T-Shirt Design
Select a T-shirt with an eye-catching print, graphic, or meaningful design. Wash and iron the fabric to remove wrinkles.

2. Prepare the Metal Frame
Find a metal frame at a thrift store or repurpose an old one. Remove any existing artwork or backing.

3. Cut the Fabric to Size
Lay the T-shirt flat and position the frame over the design. Use a ruler and pencil to mark the cutting area, leaving an extra inch on each side for securing the fabric. Cut the fabric carefully.

Cut the Picture to Fit the Backing

4. Attach Fabric to Matte or Backing
If using a matte board, center the fabric over it. Secure the edges with spray adhesive, fabric glue, or tape. If not using a matte, stretch the fabric tightly over the backing and staple or tape it in place.

Tape the Picture to the Backing

5. Assemble the Frame
Place the fabric-covered backing inside the frame. Secure it with clips or fasteners from the original frame.

Assemble the Frame and Insert the Picture

6. Display Your Upcycled Art
Hang your framed T-shirt art in your home or gift it to a friend. It’s a unique way to preserve memories while reducing waste.
